Tummy Tuck

Both men and women have a tendency to gain weight in the abdomen. Weight gain and pregnancy stretch the skin and aging can cause the stomach to protrude. Pregnancy can also weaken the abdominal muscles. Sometimes, no amount of diet and exercise can create a flat tummy.

The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat, and tightens the muscles beneath. If a woman has had a C-section, it might disguise or remove that scarring, depending on the location of that incision.

But the tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure, so liposuction is sometimes performed at the same time as the tummy tuck. Nor does the tummy tuck correct stretch mark scarring.

There are two types. The mini-abdominoplasty targets fat deposits below the naval. The complete tummy tuck targets the entire abdomen, both above and below the naval.

Thigh Lift

The thighs tend to store weight deposits. Thus the skin can stretch, lose its elasticity and both wrinkle and sag, from the hips to the knees — especially the inner thigh. A thigh lift, or thighplasty, removes excess skin. It may be done on the inner thigh, the outer thigh, or both, and is sometimes combined with a buttock lift operation.

Scar Revision

As wounds heal, they form scar tissue and some scars are unsightly or quite conspicuous. Some form thick clusters of tissue at the site of a wound. Keloid scars are larger than the original wound and can itchy or even painful. And contracture scars can even restrict movement.

Scar revision seeks to minimize their appearance and effect, and the kind of scar will dictate the type of treatment.

It can involve a surgical procedure, a minimally invasive treatment or even a simple topical remedy. However none of these can completely erase a scar.

Panniculectomy

When a layer of inflammatory tissue called the pannus forms on the lower abdomen it can grow quite large. If it is large enough, it can form a kind of sagging apron. A large pannus is unattractive and uncomfortable. Moreover, perspiration can make the underside damp, fostering rashes and unpleasant odor.

Panniculectomy is a surgical procedure targeting this excess skin and tissue by removing it, thus creating a flatter and more attractive abdomen. However, unlike the tummy tuck, the panniculectomy does not tighten the underlying muscles.

Neck Lift

The neck lift, or lower platysmaplasty, focuses on the neck and jawline to create a more youthful appearance. This procedure removes excess fat and loose or sagging skin in the lower face as well as under the chin.

It is sometimes performed together with a brow lift or eyelid surgery. It may also be combined with a transfer of fat to the cheeks or to plump up lips that often become thinner with age.

Mommy Makeover

The “mommy makeover” focuses on the areas of a woman’s body affected by pregnancy and childbirth.

The most notable area is the abdomen. The uterus expands as the child’s body develops, and the surrounding skin stretches at the same time. In the final months of pregnancy, the baby’s growth is more rapid so that the muscles running vertically down the mother’s stomach area may actually separate gently to accommodate the growing baby.

As the uterus grows, the breasts also prepare for nurturing the newborn and you may notice they increase in size. Mothers who choose to breastfeed may find this fullness lasts while they are nursing. However, afterward, their size decreases. They may seem less firm or actually sag.

The stretched skin is no longer needed after childbirth. But this excess skin and sagging tissue can remain despite exercise and diet.

So the mommy makeover focuses on the abdomen and breasts, though perhaps not exclusively. Every woman’s body is uniquely her own. Your needs and desires will guide your surgeon. Together, you will choose one or more procedures to help restore your body’s contours to what they were before you became a mommy.

Microneedle

Microneedling is a dermatological treatment, also known as collagen induction therapy. It is done primarily on the face and involves pricking the skin with tiny sterile needles. This increases blood flow to the skin to stimulate the production of natural collagen. More collagen improves the elasticity of the skin. It is designed to help create a smoother, firmer complexion, and can also help minimize stretch marks and scars from acne.

Multiple microneedling procedures are recommended for best results.

Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia affects men and is defined as excessive development of the breast tissue. Due to excess weight, the breast tissue can sag and the skin can stretch, and this can occur in one or both breasts. Gynecomastia surgery is essentially a breast reduction mammoplasty.

Liposuction

While a healthy lifestyle is ideal for maintaining an optimum weight, each person is different. Our genes have something to do with this.

Even someone who is slim and trim can develop deposits of fat that will not cede to diet and exercise. Liposuction can target these localized areas of fat by destroying fat cells and removing them. It can be done using laser, ultrasound or both. So “lipo” is a way of improving your body’s shape and contours.

It can also be combined with a tummy tuck, breast reduction or a “lift” of various areas with remarkable results. And while it destroys and removes fat cells, it is not a weight loss method.

Gluteal Lift

Our genes determine the basic form of our buttocks. Some are round and perky, some are somewhat thin and flat, some are large, some small, some buxom and others flabby. However weight gain and loss also affect the shape and size.

Cosmetic surgery — known as a gluteal lift — can help us improve the shape, although it doesn’t make the buttocks larger. Essentially, the lift tightens the underlying tissue and removes excess skin and fat. It may also be combined with a tummy tuck or a lower body lift.
