Body types vary considerably among women. Some women have uncomfortably heavy breasts, which might limit their activities. The weight is known to cause pain in the neck, shoulders, and back. It can also cause skin irritation on the bottom of the breasts. It can also be challenging to find clothes that fit well, which can impact our self-esteem.

Reduction mammoplasty can help ease this pain and give a woman more balanced, appealing body proportions. Getting a breast reduction has several aesthetic advantages:

The Benefits of Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery uses liposuction and other techniques to minimize the amount of extra skin and breast tissue, resulting in lighter, firmer, and more manageable breasts. Breast reductions give patients several advantages, including:

Less Pain

Large breasts can be cumbersome. Removing that weight can help relieve back, shoulder, and neck pain caused by your breasts and bras.

Better Mobility

Physical exertion might be difficult with heavy breasts. After a breast reduction, you can participate in sports, attend fitness courses, and work out to your full potential.

Improved Confidence

For those self-conscious about the size of their breasts, a breast reduction may be just what you need to slim down your figure. It can enhance your body proportions and allow you to wear whatever you desire!

Breast Reduction Surgery & Recovery

Breast reduction surgery is usually done as an outpatient operation under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation along with a local anesthetic.

Procedure

The procedure usually takes a couple of hours. Dr. Diego Ampudia, a Tijuana breast reduction surgeon, removes extra tissue, fat, and skin during the process. He may also raise the nipple and areola on the chest. Incisions are usually done around the areola, continuing vertically down the breast and following the natural curvature beneath the breast in the shape of a keyhole or racquet. Depending on the surgeon's opinion, the alternatives to the typical incision include a circular incision pattern around the areola, as well as an inverted "T" or anchor-shaped incision pattern.

Recovery

During the initial surgery appointment, Dr. Diego Ampudia will go through detailed recovery instructions. Patients undergoing breast reduction surgery must rest as much as possible immediately following surgery. Movement and activity should be restricted to allow for a smooth and quick recovery. A surgical bra may also be offered to the patient to be worn after the bandages and dressings have been removed. Medication can be prescribed for any post-op discomfort or pain.

Liposuction for Breast Reduction

In certain circumstances, liposuction alone might be used to conduct this operation.

Liposuction for breast reduction has several advantages, including a quicker, less invasive operation, nearly invisible scars on the breast, and long-term outcomes.

This method, however, will only produce excellent outcomes in a subset of people.

Women who need or prefer a small to moderate decrease in breast size, have good skin elasticity and little to no sagging to address, and whose extra breast size is mostly attributable to excess fatty tissue are the ideal candidates. If you have drooping, asymmetrical breasts, stretched skin, or a large quantity of tissue to remove, one of the following breast reduction treatments may be right for you.

Vertical or “Lollipop” Breast Reduction

Patients who require a slight decrease in breast size and have visible drooping are frequently ideal candidates for a vertical breast reduction.

This requires two incisions: one along the areola’s border and one extending vertically from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold, or the crease beneath the breast.

Dr. Diego Ampudia can use this incision pattern to remove extra fat, skin, and breast tissue, contour the new smaller breast internally, and give the breasts a youthful lift.

Inverted-T or “Anchor” Breast Reduction

Three incisions are made during the inverted-T breast reduction: one around the areola, one vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and one along the crease beneath the breast.

Dr. Ampudia would often employ this procedure if a patient requires a more severe breast size reduction and/or has major sagging or asymmetry to fix since it allows for the most tissue removal and reshaping.

Scars from an inverted-T or anchor breast reduction are identical to those from a vertical reduction, with the exception of one extra, thin scar running down the crease beneath the breast.

Scars normally disappear significantly within the first year or two following surgery with good care and are readily covered by clothes, including a bikini top.

FAQ about Breast Reduction

Recovery is key. You will experience swelling after the procedure, so we provide a soft supportive bra for 6-8 weeks. This will help you heal more thoroughly and reduce discomfort following surgery. During recovery, make sure not to wear underwire bras as the wire can cause skin irritation.
