Tummy Tuck

Both men and women have a tendency to gain weight in the abdomen. Weight gain and pregnancy stretch the skin and aging can cause the stomach to protrude. Pregnancy can also weaken the abdominal muscles. Sometimes, no amount of diet and exercise can create a flat tummy.

The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat, and tightens the muscles beneath. If a woman has had a C-section, it might disguise or remove that scarring, depending on the location of that incision.

But the tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure, so liposuction is sometimes performed at the same time as the tummy tuck. Nor does the tummy tuck correct stretch mark scarring.

There are two types. The mini-abdominoplasty targets fat deposits below the naval. The complete tummy tuck targets the entire abdomen, both above and below the naval.
