Male Breast Reduction

Introduction

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia) Surgery in Tijuana

Gynecomastia (often called “gyno”) is defined as the excessive development of breast tissue in men. The causes of gynecomastia are largely unknown, but they can appear during any stage of life. Due to excess weight, the breast tissue can sag, and the skin can stretch, and this can occur in one or both breasts. Gynecomastia surgery is equivalent to a breast reduction mammoplasty and is performed in the same manner.

Recovery From Male Breast Reduction

Recovery from a male breast reduction surgery is much the same as a regular breast reduction surgery.  Painkillers are prescribed to reduce any pain and discomfort, and an elastic garment is provided to be worn for several weeks post-operation.  A follow-up appointment will also be scheduled within the first 24-48 hours.

A week into recovery, patients can return to work, but the more strenuous activities will need to be avoided for two to three weeks more.  By three to six months, most of the swelling and bruising will have subsided.
