Facelift

As we age, gravity takes its toll. The process of aging causes us to lose some of the fat in the hollow below the cheek bones. In addition, age relaxes both muscles and skin in the facial area. Our lifestyle, unprotected exposure to the sun, and stress can have an impact. Even our genetic makeup plays a part in how we age.

There are several common results. The fold lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth deepen. Sagging jowls may form along the jawline. And the tissue around the eyes begins to droop, resulting in a sad and tired look.

Known as a rhytidectomy, the facelift can make notable improvements in our appearance. Tissues are lifted and tightened, just as the name implies, and excess skin is removed. This results in a more youthful look and people often say that, after a face lift, the patient looks “rested and refreshed.” And, while surgery cannot stop the natural process of aging, it can set the clock back.

The facelift may be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery and the brow lift.
